Britam Tower
GAPP Architects and Urban Designers / Triad JV - Kenya
BRITAM tower is a thirty storey 30,000m2 multi-tenanted office development for British American Investments in the upmarket area of Upper Hill, Nairobi, Kenya. Floor plates vary in size as the building rises creating gentle tapers in the façade. From a 1200m2 square at ground level, the floors progress through a series of octagonal plates and peaks at exactly half the area at the penthouse suite, as the square completes its rotation through 45 degrees. The full height glazed curtain wall facade is screened from solar radiation by a secondary skin of ceramic rods creating a “veil” around the building. Rods are paced differently depending on orientation, thus lending an ethereal effect to a solid beacon in the urban landscape.
