With the influx of people from rural to urban areas in African cities, there is a high demand for the development of infrastructures, and amenities. Most parts of the city are becoming informal settlements, and the Lagos state government has resulted to forced eviction of homes. However, rather than a forced eviction and demolition adopted by the Lagos State Government, our project for Ijora Badia is to empower the people of Ijora to rebuild their community and improve the standard of their living. The home center provides a platform for community participation, empowering people in their trade and skills, enacting the culture of the place, and educating the people with new technological ways. Ijora Badia home center provides a new concept to dealing with urbanisation issues in Africa. Our proposal for Ijora Badia is to empower the people of Ijora to rebuild their community and improve the standard of their living. The project suggest a new possibility of development, and dealing with problem of urbanization by exploring the skills and resources of the people together with knowledge, information and new technology provides a new solution. Local materials such as concrete, timber, and bamboo which are readily available within the community are specified for the construction. The interior furnishes are made with bamboo. The atrium space is finished with the pure concrete materials with the focus within the space mainly on the people and the message to the people. The overall form and architectural quality of Ijora Badia Home center creates a home of hope, and inspiration to the people in the community.
