The house in the Great Karoo acts as a harvester of light and air that connects its inhabitants to the natural world. Internal spaces are differentiated by views and volume. Insulated roughcast plaster walls and sliding shutters and doors allow for the modulation of heat and light.

Taking its inspiration from Malawian vernacular, clustered units create a replicable “village” that features not only sufficient daylighting, ventilation, and hygienic conditions, but a set of familiar community spaces for women.
