Street Light School, located in the heart of The City of Johannesburg is developing low-cost best practices in learning and teaching. The learning centre is the first GBCSA Green-Star rated School on the African continent, and was almost entirely constructed from low cost and up-cycled materials.

The design for the new Zip Zip Circus School - a social circus based in Cape Town, South Africa - focuses on capturing the magic and drama of the circus to create spaces that offer uniquely immersive learning experience for children & youth of all ages and backgrounds.

The project aims to bring back earth as a sustainable building material, using traditional construction methods and handcraft, and encouraging local-international participation in order to improve the quality of housing in Tanzanian communities. An alternative space for reading and learning, in an attempt to make culture and books more accessible.

Winding around the highest point of hill Chul Amba, sheltered in the meandering mud, steel and concrete skin crowned with a skylight (a reminder of the cave sanctuaries of the ancient Ethiopian temples),and a “primordial spring”, are terraces located at different levels with all-round panoramic views of the magnificent scenery.

The new Buscor Bus Terminus is located in White River, Mpumalanga. The facility consists of the main building with six bus platforms tucked in underneath a linear steel roof supported by an array of slender concrete columns with steel crown supports, giving the impression of a light tree top canopy.

The use of concrete, glass and aluminum for the RBIDZ Entrance Gate is contrasted by the natural greenery of the surrounding KwaZulu-Natal landscape, enabling the building to stand out and be the bold architectural statement the brief required.

A 1930’s Arts & Crafts style suburban home and garden is re-imagined to suit a new commercial purpose whilst retaining the aspiration to craftsmanship, truth to materials, delight and beauty that the Arts and Crafts movement represented.

This small project, a new walkway inside the two-billion-year-old national heritage site, Wonderwerk Cave, is a balancing act between architecture and archaeology, transience and permanence. The gentle tectonic and apparent simplicity of this steel and timber installation, masks a rigorous tactical exploration of landscape intervention methodologies.

From Landscape to Roofscape represents a design for a prototypical pavilion structure for public use in Kenya hosting a library, tailoring workshop and ICT rooms. Simplicity, low-tech solutions and an understandable design process were important to realize the project successfully together with the local workers and students within two years.
