The massing and space layout draws from dominantly used forms, circle and oval, of most African traditional architecture. In doing so, an elliptical form is employed to lend it a contemporary expression and house major functions. White pigmented textured concrete is used to give it a neutral and monolithic appearance.

Multipurpose Hall at St. Bernard’s Secondary School, Mannya
Studio FH Architects - Uganda
The Multipurpose Hall is a combined assembly and dining hall providing room for 650 students. It accommodates a covered external auditorium, stage and a school kitchen with associated servery, dish collection, stores and manager’s office. Three curved steps create an amphitheatre that follows the gentle slope of the site.

The auditorium/amphitheatre 150-seater community hall in South-western Uganda has clay tile stepped seating and a small elevated platform illuminated by liters of light. Two adjacent rooms to the hall serve as storage and private meeting area. The front is a walkway covered by a pergola providing shade for informal gatherings.
