Attending the emergency shelter ... is to provide vulnerable families protection. It may take the form of a product, or it may be a process, which may start with a tarpaulin or tent, which may eventually become the roof of a house, which can continuously cluster more families.

The Centre d'Education FC Advan lies in the mountainous region of Madagascar, a secluded area with extreme climatic conditions. It consists of a new football pitch and several buildings. They are six-sect building types with large roofs that extend over the exposed building corners and protect against sun and rain.

Set in the Riverside area of Nairobi, Rumaisa was designed to provide a complete housing solution for Nairobi’s growing middle income population. The project sought to not only provide well-designed living spaces, but also provide exceptional facilities for the body and spaces for rejuvenation for the mind as well.

The Landmark, Karen, is a small shopping centre, the design of which is an attempt at infusing a modern design with traditional heritage. Located in one of the most historical districts of Nairobi, the building attempts to create a Neo-colonial language which blends and contrasts the rustic with the modern.

The client, a medical doctor, working in close proximity to the Wilgers Hospital, started off with quite an ambitious brief. She purchased two adjacent properties next to the hospital. The idea was to demolish both residential structures and design a bespoke medical facility to be an extension of her brand.

The Elegance is the result of the evolution of the design of a structure in response to the organic evolution of the needs of the structure itself, coupled with a willingness to look at the way we build and ask: ‘Could it be done just a little differently?’

This small contemporary house is inspired by the trees on the estate, The timber and steel structure is located in a small clearing amongst forest-like gardens, and respond similarly to the verticality of the surrounding trees by becoming a vertically arranged “clearing in the forest”.

The brief called for the design of a house for a young family of three just outside the picturesque little town of Clarens, Free State, South Africa. They required a small house consisting of an open plan living room and kitchen, with one bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.

The proposed design aims to create permeability, which in turn assists with the creation of a safe environment, with a contrasting vibrancy between built forms. This contrast is enhanced by positive and negative spatial entities with colour being introduced strategically to enrich the vibrancy of the site.
