This beautiful Diamond Coast town is on the west coast of the Northern Cape. It is 72km from Port Nolloth and 105km from Springbok. Founded in 1927 and known for its diamond-mining operations, owned by De Beers. The name is Afrikaans for “small sea”. Since 2007 the world's leading diamond company, De Beers, has drastically cut operations at its Namaqualand mines as the precious gems run out . Statistics says the population in the area dwindled from about 10000 in 2007 to just under 100 today with many community members moving to neighbouring towns, while others, especially migrant workers, went back to their countries such as Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia. Our plan is to convert kleinsee from a ghost town into a sustainable city in 10 years
