The National Vision 2030 laid down strategies of achieving National goals and objectives for socio cultural and Economic development for the Country, Kenya. Voi Town, chosen alongside other towns to be a tourist centre, as an inland container deport, hub for mineral business, to house SGR’s third largest station which will offer connectivity to northern Tanzania and great lakes region. In its plans to fit in the National vision 2030, The County Government of Taita Taveta, through its various ministries has embarked on vigorous programs to develop human resource necessary to meet projected demands. Similar efforts are in place to ensure an integrated approach to human resource development in other ministries e.g. Health services, Social Services etc. The County Government of Taita Taveta (CGTT) in association with development partners USAID has proposed the design of Voi Resource Centre in Voi Sub County. The Centre should in all its aspects be a symbol of the Taita Taveta People. It should be inspirational, a source of employment and business, the pride of the citizenry. The Building design origins in sisal Farming which has long been a major economic activity among members of the Taita Community. This has provided raw material for Basket weaving, a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation. From the Basket, a centre generates a spiral that represents: -growth _continuity -awareness -Balance -Progress Connection The Basket – A way of expression through pattern and color _A vessel used for carrying gifts -Weaving single strands of sisal to form a basket _Shortlived due to introduction of synthetic fibres The Resource Centre -A Place of Expression through Performing arts -A gift to the community/ from the community to the world -Weaving the communities of Taita Taveta to form an integrated society _A more permanent manefestation of the basket to the community.
