One grand Prix winner will receive the cash prize of $10 000 (USD). In addition, four trophy winners, one per entry category, will be chosen. All 20 short-listed entries will be invited to attend the awards ceremony.

Superdome Ifakara
Tanzania
A decade-long relationship links the rural town of Ifakara in Tanzania with architecture students from Dar es Salaam & Lucerne/Switzerland. "Superdome" is the result of a 2-week international design/build workshop: an innovatively designed, cheap and effective multipurpose hall made of local bricks and teakwood poles.

Village Health Works Staff Housing
Burundi
Embedded in the rural Burundi mountainside, this 18-bed Staff Housing is a romance between East African elemental aesthetics and inventive off-the grid sustainability. The design responds to the concern that just because the villagers are poor, there was no reason why their housing could not be forward thinking and beautiful.

Kasbah OF Knowledge - Middle school
Morocco
"The kasba of knowledge" is a college with architectural vocabulary inspired by the Moroccan heritage. Protected by a "wall" of ocher concrete and wrapped in a white "moucharabieh", this space aims to create an propitious atmosphere to learning by stimulating curiosity and the appetite for discovery.

Chimphamba Village Church
Malawi
The community of Chimphamba (Malawi) have been gathering for years in a church building that was near to collapse. The community has also outgrown the dilapidated building. A4AC designed and managed the construction of this building inspired by the existing and familiar elements in the community.

The showcase is a space in which different African Regional Architectural Associations and Institutions award winners are recognised and celebrated. Projects displayed here are not automatically entered into the Africa Architecture Awards 2017.
